Funding Guidelines

This page is designed to provide information about what the Zero Waste Committee will and will not consider in a funding request. For information about Zero Waste Committee’s application process, please see our pages on Contact with any questions.

The Zero Waste Committee seeks to fund projects that align with its goal of obtaining zero waste by 2020. Applicants should demonstrate a strong connection between their project and the Zero Waste Committee goal.

Grant applications must be submitted in connection with a UCSB affiliated department, registered nonprofit, or government agency. Unaffiliated individuals cannot apply for funding. While the Zero Waste Committee does not set a limit on the amount of funding an applicant may request, applicants should note that we typically allocate at most $1,000. Applicants may submit more than one proposal per grant cycle and may have more than one grant active at once provided that each is a distinct and separate project.

Funding Cycle Timeline

Projects should be completed by the end of the fiscal year (May 20, 2020). Zero Waste Committee processes applications on a rolling basis. This year’s deadline for the grant proposal program is May 1, 2020, Applications are processes within 3 weeks (breaks, dead week and finals week will not be considered as part of these 3 weeks), and may invite you to speak at our meeting about your project, so that we may get more information on it before making a decision on funding.  The Zero Waste Committee does not consider funding requests during the summer.
