The UCSB Zero Waste Committee is holding an essay contest this year. We are an AS entity committed to reducing waste on campus and helping students reduce waste in their personal lives. Since we were not able to hold the Zero Waste Festival this year, we would like to use this event to hear from the student body about their thoughts and experiences with zero waste. Whether zero waste has made an impact on you personally, professionally, or in another way, we would like to hear about it! The winners’ essay will be posted online on our website and shared in our email newsletter. We hope you participate and are very excited to read the submissions!
There will be 2 winners and 2 honorable mention prizes. Winners will receive a $300 value prize and honorable mentions will receive a $200 value prize.
Winners can choose between a gift card to the Isla Vista Food Cooperative or any zero waste store, or a gift basket filled with zero waste-related items and snacks!
Your essay should be 500 – 1000 words. Please submit your essay using this google form. We prefer to hear about your thoughts and experiences on going zero waste at UCSB and Isla Vista but this is not a requirement! Please choose from these three prompts:
1. How has going zero waste changed your life for the better?
2. What inspired you to start making changes in your life to become more zero waste?
3. How have you or how do you plan to inspire others to become more zero waste?
